Stephen Kirsch

He/Him

Stephen’s research examines the impact of trauma on embodiment. He is particularly interested in how complex trauma disrupts and dislocates lived experiences of the body and the processing of emotion. His work explores trauma not only as a psychological experience, but as an embodied and physiological phenomenon.

Stephen is investigating whether temporary experiences of embodiment through another body can shift physiological processing within one’s own body. He is also interested in co-interoception and the ways in which others’ physiology may shape or regulate our own stress responses.

Outside of the Lab: Stephen enjoys the occasional casual-turn-serious spikeball match and will rarely turn down a game of hearts or cribbage.
